How I Built Automated Shopify Analytics That Deliver Weekly Reports and Creative Recommendations
Running an ecommerce business on Shopify generates enormous data. I built automated workflows that turn raw store data into reports and AI-powered creative recommendations.

Running an ecommerce business on Shopify generates an enormous amount of data. Orders, product performance, customer behavior, ad attribution - it is all there, but extracting actionable insights from it manually is a full-time job. When a multi-brand ecommerce group approached me to automate their Shopify analytics, the goal was clear: turn raw store data into automated reports and strategic recommendations without anyone spending hours in spreadsheets.
I built a suite of automated workflows that pull, analyze, and report on Shopify data in real time, including an AI-powered creative strategist that recommends ad content based on actual sales performance.
The Problem
a multi-brand ecommerce group was managing multiple Shopify stores, and the analytics burden was growing with each new storefront. Pulling weekly order data meant logging into each store individually, exporting CSVs, and manually compiling reports. There was no centralized dashboard, no automated alerting, and no systematic way to connect sales data to advertising decisions.
The creative team was making ad decisions based on intuition rather than data. Product-level performance insights existed in the Shopify backend, but they were not being surfaced in a way that informed which products to feature, which creatives to scale, and which to retire.
The Solution
I designed and deployed a comprehensive analytics automation system using n8n, Make.com, and the Shopify API.
High Level Store Analytics Dashboard - A real-time analytics workflow that pulls key metrics from every connected Shopify store and consolidates them into a single view.
7-Day Shopify Orders Analyst - Every week, this workflow pulls the previous seven days of order data, analyzes trends, compares performance against prior periods, and generates a formatted report delivered directly to Google Docs.
Shopify Creative Strategist - The most impactful workflow. It analyzes product-level sales data and generates ad creative recommendations. Products with strong sales velocity get flagged for scaling. Underperformers are identified for creative refresh.
Automated Product and Order Syncing - When a new store is added, workflows automatically pull all products and historical orders into the central system.
Tracking Attribution Data - A dedicated workflow reconciles Shopify order data with ad platform attribution, providing a clearer picture of which campaigns are actually driving revenue.
Tools Used
- n8n and Make.com for workflow automation
- Shopify API for order, product, and store data extraction
- Google Docs for automated report generation and delivery
- Airtable for centralized data storage and cross-store analysis
Results and Business Impact
- Real-time store performance dashboards replaced manual data pulls across all stores
- Automated weekly analytics reports delivered to stakeholders without any manual effort
- Product-level creative recommendations grounded in actual sales data, not assumptions
- Instant onboarding for new stores with automated product and order ingestion
- Reconciled attribution data that gave the advertising team a trustworthy view of campaign performance
Conclusion
Ecommerce analytics should not be a manual process. When your store data automatically flows into reports, dashboards, and strategic recommendations, you make better decisions faster.
